Department of Physiology

The department of Physiology has efficient faculty members and supporting personnel. The laboratory is enriched with all relevant instruments and equipments required to teach the students for practical hands on training. Lecture and tutorial classes are conducted with modern teaching aids for better comprehension.

Department of Biochemistry

Medical Biochemistry is the subspeciality of Medical Science that helps medical students to understand the biochemical process of human body such as nutrition, enzyme activity, metabolism, water, electrolyte & acid-base balance, cellular transport & signaling, hormonal regulation, molecular biology, gene expression & recombinant DNA technology etc. There is an enriched Laboratory in the Biochemistry Department at Dr. Sirajul Islam Medical College comprising necessary instruments & equipments with skilled Laboratory technician. The teaching methodology involves lecture, tutorial & practical classes, seminars, item, card, term & assessment examination of the students. Medical Biochemistry deals with the analysis of body fluids and thereby helps in the screening, diagnosis, monitoring & management of different diseases.

Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics

The Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics teaches the students about the basic properties and principles of drugs, their action in the human body and their adverse effects. We ensure that they also know about the application of these drugs in various clinical conditions. The department provides an enriched laboratory comprising a standard collection of medicine samples, necessary equipment and related models and posters for demonstration. The students are also informed about the recent update of advancement in the field of Pharmacology relevant to their curriculum.

Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology

Forensic Medicine is the only subject that deals with the application of medical knowledge in case of legal aspects. Our department is highly enriched with teachers and other staffs, equipments, sample of weapons & poisons. Our museum is nicely decorated with necessary materials such as sample and pictures of medicolegal cases as well as necessary legal documents of Forensic Medicine.
We try our level best to prepare our students as skilled medical practitioners regarding the knowledge of Forensic Medicine & legal aspects to aid the justice in future.

Department of Community Medicine and Public Health

The Department of Community Medicine and Public Health is provided with a museum and other auxiliary facilities. The museum has good collection of models, photographs and charts related to health care delivery. The teaching is carried out at community level. For that purpose Dr. SIMC has a residential field training centre at Keranigonj Upazilla under Dhaka district with outpatient, inpatient and diagnostic facilities in function. Department of Pathology

Department has a laboratory room well equipped with all necessary logistics for practical classes and regular practical examinations. There is a specimen museum displaying various types of surgical specimens. Besides this, there is a spacious classroom in the department accommodating a large number of students at a time for both lecture and tutorial purpose.

Department of Microbiology

Our department is highly enriched with teachers and other staffs. There is a spacious class room in the department accommodating a large number of students at a time for both lecture and tutorial sessions. Besides, the department has a laboratory room well equipped with all necessary logistics. For practical classes we try our best to prepare our students as skilled medical practitioners regarding the knowledge of Microbiology.

Department of Medicine

The Department of Medicine have all facilities to manage acute and chronic cases including rheumatological problems, gastrointestinal interventions, neurological and nephrological emergencies. We have also separate cardiology, dermatology, neurology, paediatrics and psychiatry department.

Department of Surgery

World class Surgery department of Dr.SIMC is well organized with all modern facilities. Various routine and emergency operations are conducted here. Moreover, laparoscopic surgeries like cholecystectomy, appendicectomy, hernia repair, partial gastrectomy with gastro-jejunestomy, hemicolectomy, haemorrhoidectomy (Longo) are also performed in the department. Standard ICU, CCU services with Critical care Specialist & 24 hrs emergency investigations including CT scan, MRI are also provided to render multi-disciplinary services for critically ill patients.
The teaching methodology involves lectures, tutorials, ward placement, block posting, seminars & case discussions etc.

Department of Gynaecology & Obstetrics

In the department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics we have all facilities of indoor and outdoor services. In outdoor services we provide all kinds of Gynaeological and Obstetrical examination, investigations and treatment. We also provide management of all kinds of Gynaecological and Obstetrical emergencies. We have separate operation theaters for Gynaecology and Obstetrics and well equipped post operative follow-up room. For conduction of normal vaginal delivery we have separate well equipped labour and observation rooms with CTG machine and portable ultrasonography machine. We manage all kind of high risk pregnancies and other gynaecological operations.

Department of Ophthalmology

Dr. Sirajul Islam Medical College & Hospital has a world class Ophthalmic unit headed by Prof. Dr. M.A Aziz along with two Assistant Professors. The department conducts various ocular investigations including optical coherence tomography, visual field analysis, retinal laser, colour fundus photography and fundus fluorescence angiogram. Ocular Surgeries performed are Phaco, DCR, Pterigium excision autograft and trabeculectomy. This department also possesses world class operation theatre facilities equipped with U.S.A based (alcon) Phaco machine and highly skilled O.T staff.

Department of ENT

The ENT department of Dr.SIMC is well organized with modern instruments and diagnostic facilities. The classroom are equipped with multimedia facilities. Practical aspects are taught at patient’s bed-side during ward placement and tutorial sessions.
OPD is well equipped to manage and diagnose all types of ENT diseases and emergencies.
We have well furnished comfortable indoor ward and cabins provided with necessary facilities like central suction machine and oxygen supply. Our nurses are experienced in dealing with all types of patients in a compassionate way.
Microsurgery, endoscopic surgeries and other surgeries are performed in our department. Our consultants are conducting advanced procedures like tympanoplasty, FESS, reconstructive surgeries for cancer patients as well as other routine surgeries. Faculty details is given bellow :

Department of Orthopaedics

Dr.SIMC has world class orthopaedic department with all modern facilities and sophisticated equipments. We provide all types of emergency orthopaedic management by our widely experienced consultants. We have world class ICU service staffed with critical care specialists, 24 hours emergency operation and investigation facilities including CT scan, MRI and other emergency investigations.
We can provide multidisciplinary consultancy service for any kind of critically ill patients. Routine operations such as total hip replacement, total knee replacement are done. Congenital orthopaedic anomalies of children such as club foot, TEV are also treated.

Department of Transfusion Medicine

Transfusion medicine (or Transfusiology) is the branch of medicine that is concerned with transfusion of blood and blood components. Transfusion Medicine is usually a branch of clinical pathology. The blood donor center is the facility that collects and processes blood products.
The Division of Transfusion Medicine is responsible for the collection and testing of blood to be given to patients at Mayo Clinic (traditional "blood banking"). Transfusion Medicine also performs therapeutic apheresis procedures to treat patients with neurologic, kidney and blood diseases.

Department of Cardiology

The Cardiology Department of Dr. SIMCH is headed by Prof. Dr. A F M Shakhawat Hossain with other invasive (Interventional) & non invasive consultants. Our CCU unit has beds for CCU and PCCU with modern instrument, monitor, defibrillator & ventilator support, CAG, PCI, PTMC, TPM & PPM procedure are done. Our cardiac Surgery unit is enriched with renowned Cardiac Surgeons. They have already performed more than 120 cardiac surgeries (CABG), Valve Replacement, ASD/VSD closure & other Cardio Surgical procedures have been performed with minimal mortality rate. We also have several private Consultant Cardiologists rendering services.

Running with modern equipments (500 mA CR, 1000 mA DR, 2D, 3D & D USG, OPG, BMD, Mammography, 128 slice CT scan & 1.5 Tesla MRI). The Department of Radiology & Imaging provides 24 hours quality service (Routine investigations, Colour Doppler study, transvaginal & transrectal USG, USG/CT guided FNAC, CT angiogram & interventional procedures) to both indoor & outdoor patients.
